Ada Murie

Ada L. Murie, 92, of Arnegard, N.D., more recently of the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Watford City, N.D, died Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at the home. Her funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m, on Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Wilmington Lutheran Church in Arnegard.  Pastor Tim Swenson officiated and interment took place at Wilmington Lutheran Cemetery. Ada Lucile Petersen Murie was born on Feb.16, 1918, to Peter L. (P.L.) and Jennie (Jensen) Petersen on the family homestead east of Arnegard. She attended school in Arnegard and graduated in 1936.
Ada was always interested in children and knew from a young age that she wanted to be a teacher. She attended the Agricultural College (now NDSU) for one year and then graduated from Minot State Teacher’s College in 1939 with her teacher’s certificate in Elementary Education. She taught for 30 years in various rural schools in McKenzie County, including Cartwright, Alexander, Arnegard and Mandaree.
Ada married Herman Murie on May 10, 1941, in Fairview, Mont.  They lived on a farm in rural McKenzie County before moving to Arnegard.
Serving others was a favorite hobby of Ada’s and for the past 25 years she made quilts for her church missions, family and friends. She was active in many church activities, including Ladies Aid, Bible studies, Sunday School and Bible School. She also enjoyed working in her flower gardens and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was a member of the Lionesses, 4-H leader, and assisted with the school and church reunions. After retiring, she was the librarian at the McKenzie County Rural Library while it was located in the Arnegard School.
She is survived by two daughters, Anita (Miguel) Rodriguez, Buena Park, Calif., and Beverly (Daryl) Schoepp, Steele, N.D.; two sons, Herbert (Judy) Murie, Arnegard, N.D., and Mark (Shelby) Murie, Bismarck, N.D.; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; her sister, Priscilla Del Mastro, Santa Maria, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman; infant son, Herman, Jr; daughter, Annette; parents, P. L. and Jennie; brother, Andy; sisters, Ingeborg and Janet Culpepper.
