Harriet Dundas

Harriet Dundas, 89, of Watford City, N.D., passed away Saturday, Oct. 3, 2009, at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home in Watford City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Watford City. Pastoral Assistant Rob Favorite and Pastors Jim Stenslie and Alton Hillesland will officiate and interment will follow at Schafer Cemetery. Harriet Aletha Elsberry was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Devils Lake, N.D., to Thomas and Mary Elsberry. She attended schools in Carson and Watford City, N.D., and Madison, Minn. She worked in the AAA and Selective Service Offices in Rolla, N.D., and Losk Brothers Clothing Store and Stenslie’s Dry Goods Store in Watford City. She married Owen James Dundas on Sept. 24, 1948, in Watford City, and they had one daughter, Mary Ann. Harriet worked for Dr. D.C. Oliver as a receptionist, and in the medical records department at McKenzie County Memorial Hospital before retiring in 1980.
Harriet’s life centered around her home, family, and church. She was involved in many activities at First Lutheran Church – teaching Sunday School, singing in the choir, participating in Hope Circle and ELCW, and quilting. She was active in Homemaker’s Club, Women’s Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary, and Good Shepherd Home Auxiliary Her many hobbies included cooking, baking, sewing, gardening, and volunteering at the hospital and Good Shepherd Home, but her true joy was found in being a homemaker She had a servant’s heart, and her strong, quiet faith was an inspiration to us all.
She is survived by her husband Jim, of Watford City; daughter, Mary (Daniel) Nelson, of Fargo, N.D.; grandson, Eric (Maralee) Nelson and great-granddaughter, Sophia Nelson of South Hamilton, Mass.; granddaughter, Kathryn Nelson, of Fargo, N.D.; nephew, Jim (Norma) Stenslie, of New Town, N.D.; nieces Judy (Darryl) Haugen of Green Valley, Ariz., Marge (George) Madsen, of Sioux Falls, S.D., Kathy (Mark) Freese, of Spokane, Wash., Beatrice (Lee) Wright, of Centralia, Wash., and other nieces and nephews.
Harriet was predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Mary Elsberry; a brother, Aziel; and sisters Marion Stenslie, Mildred Foss, and Bernice Koenig; and a nephew, Tom Mebust.
Friends may call at the Fulkerson Funeral Home in Watford City on Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and an hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
