Kathleen Heinen

Kathleen “Kathy” Dell Heinen passed away on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2015 at the St. Alexis Medical Center, surrounded by her family.
Kathy was born Aug. 20, 1945, to Elwood and Elizabeth (Pierce) Stevens. She grew up and attended school in Bowman, graduating in 1963. She married Jim Kinden on Nov. 7, 1965, at the Methodist Church in Bowman, N.D. They had two sons (Scott and William). They followed the Oil Fields from North Dakota to California, Oklahoma, Wyoming, and then back to Watford City, N.D., where they remained until Jim passed away in 1986.
Kathy met Leo Heinen at The Captain’s Table. They were married Aug. 5, 1988. Together they raised two daughters (Heidi and Amber). Kathy was a member of the Catholic Church in Watford City, N.D.  She enjoyed numerous activities with her husband Leo. They played in dart and bowling leagues. They went on several cross-country motorcycle trips. She enjoyed watching her sons and daughters play baseball, football, track, and volleyball. Later, she especially enjoyed watching her grandchildren play hockey. She never missed a home game or an opportunity to spend time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, embroidering, and crocheting. She was the family seamstress making clothes, blankets, and baby blankets for special occasions. Kathy enjoyed spending time with her family and her puppies (Cuddles and Luke).
She is survived by: her husband, Leo Heinen; two sons and their families, Scott (Connie) and their children; Ashley, Reid, Kalden, and Lane; and William (Cheryl) and their daughter, Kathleen; two daughters, Heidi (Michael) and their children, Adeline and Leo; and Amber (Daniel) and their children, Aurora and Floyd; her sister, Lynn (Jim) Conner of Oklahoma City, Okla.; her brother, George (Nora) Stevens of Denver, Colo.; her mother-in-law, Lorraine Vorderburgen of New Town, N.D.; her brother-in-law, Danny (Rachel) Kinden of Keene, N.D.; her sister-in-law Virginia (Gary) Grimstad of Missoula, Mont.; her sister and brother-in-laws on Leo’s side; and many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elwood and Elizabeth Stevens, and her first husband, Jim Kinden.
Mass of the Christian Burial was at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 12, 2015, at the Epiphany Catholic Church in Watford City with Father Brian Gross as celebrant.  Rosary was recited on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2015, at 5 p.m., at the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Watford City.  Interment was in the Schafer Cemetery, Watford City, N.D., under the care of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Watford.   Remembrances, condolences and pictures may be shared with the family at www.fulkersons.com.
