Charlene Charging

Charlene Louise (Young Bear) Charging, Mil’do’hii wiash (Blue Stone Woman) was born November 26, 1957, to Carol Young Bear. Charlene was born in Stanley, N.D., she left this world on July 3, 2014, in Bismarck, N.D.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at Water Chief Hall in Mandaree. Pastor Roger Synek officiated.   Burial was in the St. Anthony Cemetery in Mandaree.
Charlene was a lifelong resident of North Dakota.  She grew up between Mandaree and Watford City.  Charlene led a very colorful life…she earned her GED and went on to graduate from United Tribes with a certification in Secretarial Science.  Charlene worked briefly as the secretary for the Mandaree Community Action Program (CAP).
In the mid-1980’s, Charlene entertained Fort Berthold as a disc jockey on the young KMHA radio.  She did on-air requests and dedications.  During one of her radio shows, Charlene even took a request from Randy Travis who’d been performing at the Minot State Fair.
Charlene married Jerry Francis Charging in the spring of 1987. Two daughters, Carol Jenny (CJ) and Dorothy, were born to this union.  Charlene and Jerry separated early in 2002 and Jerry passed away some years later.
Charlene found companionship with Leonard Charging. Their relationship lasted many years until Leonard’s passing in 2012.
Charlene was a very outgoing, generous soul. Her upbeat personality and ready smile gained her many friends and endless acquaintances from many walks of life. Charlene was the type of person one could easily call an angel, always ready to help when and where she could-asking nothing in return.  Charlene was preceded in death by her mother, brother, husband and companion.  She leaves behind her two daughters, a grandson, and many, many friends and loved ones who will mourn her passing.
