Lyle Olson

Lyle Roy Olson died Friday, March 21, 2014, at The Lodge at Cypress Cove in Fort Myers, Fla., where he had lived for three years.
Lyle was born June 6, 1933, in Steele, N.D., to Florence Rosamond Ryan and Roy Bennett Olson.
He completed Fargo Business College in 1953. He married Audrey Gayle Sanford of Watford City, N.D., in 1954, a relationship which lasted 59 years.
Early in his career, Lyle became a CPA and eventually worked for the City of Bloomington in Minnesota as Director of Staff Services for 25 years. He was a member of the State of Minnesota Pension Board and served as president for two years. Lyle served on the Bloomington Port Authority and in this role, contributed to the financial planning and development of the Mall of America.
During his retirement in Fort Myers, Lyle continued community building by volunteering with the Lee County Democrats, Democratic Women of Lee County, Coalition of Immokalee Workers and All Faiths Unitarian Universalist Congregation. Lyle was an avid reader of history who appreciated Western art and a good country western, guitar- picking tune. He was a strong believer in the importance of education and in his lifetime mentored many young adults.  Lyle had a caring attitude for those less fortunate and a value of the importance of the common good.
Lyle was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Roy Olson of Steele, N.D. Audrey and Lyle had three children: Lyle James Olson (Adelaide); Denyse Olson-Dorff (Dennis) and Vaughn Sanford Olson.
Grandchildren include Reid, Lauren, Lucas and Marcus Olson; Jacob and Bryce Dorff; Erica, Vaughn Steven (Jacquelyn), Devin and Caitlynn Olson, one great grandchild, James Olson, and another great-grandchild on the way. Lyle and Audrey retired in Fort Myers, Fla.
