Bertha Collins

Bertha E. Collins Wright, 96, of Brooklyn Center passed away at Ecumen Prairie Lodge of Brooklyn Center.
She was born on July 31, 1917 in Balta, N.D., to Matthias and Lena (Syverson) Wright. On March 17, 1937 she was united in marriage to Arnold Collins in Grand Rapids, Minn. They had three sons and three daughters. They made their home in Bigfork until 1943 when they moved to Minneapolis and later St. Francis. Arnold passed away in December 1980. Bertha later met and married George Wright in October 1985 in Watford City, N.D. They made their home in Watford City. Bertha and George enjoyed spending time together and traveled throughout the United States. George passed away in 2007 and Bertha would return to Minnesota, spending time in Champlin and more recently Brooklyn Center.
Bertha was a loving, caring and compassionate person who enjoyed spending time with her family. She was always so protective of her children even when she was dealing with dementia. Bertha was a spiritual and religious person who was always very prim and proper. She was very clever and artistic, making several items including pillows, and quilts from old clothing, crocheting, and making halter tops from bandanas. Bertha enjoyed spending time in her flower gardens; she liked to dance and always had time to laugh.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Arnold Collins and George Wright, sons Wendell, Orlin and Adrian, sisters Mildred, Mae, Rhoda, Lulu, Blanche and Edna, brothers Lewis, Edwin, Harold, Roy, Horace and Charles Wright, and two grandchildren Wendy and Shawn. Bertha is survived by her daughters Carol Carlson of Champlin, Ina (Don) Jenkins of Coon Rapids, Vivian (Fred) Irish of Minneapolis, daughters-in-law Ardyss and Nancy Collins, 16 grandchildren, 23 great- grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren, and brother Clifford Wright of Washington.
Funeral Services were held Thursday, July 3, 2014 at the Carlson-Lillemoen Funeral Home in Cambridge. Interment was at the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.
