Matthew “Matt” Cole Mavity was born on April 19, 1983, in Sidney, Mont., to Casey and Michelle (Sodt) Mavity. Twenty months later, Matt was joined by his brother and sidekick, Dustin Todd Mavity. Together there wasn’t anything they couldn’t think of or were afraid to try. Matt and Dustin wore a path between their house and Grandma and Grandpa Mavity’s. Many Fridays were spent eating Grandpa Glen’s infamous stew. Matt attended grade schools in Richey and Lambert, graduating from Lambert High School in 2002. During high school, Matt and his friends had several mischievous adventures resulting in many special memories. Another special event in Matt’s life was the birth of his little brother, Gage Lobdell, in 2000.
Even as a young child, Matt had a strong spirit and fierce determination. Matt and Dusty spent many days dressed up with dusters, bandanas and six shooters. Matt was a cowboy from the day he was born. Growing up, Matt worked for farmers and ranchers but had a special love for riding and breaking horses. Matt was always ready to help friends and neighbors and especially loved to attend branding and V Bar A trail rides.
Matt was blessed with his daughter, Shannah Marie Mavity, in 2003.
Matt met the love of his life, Bonnie Leppell, and two short years later, they married on May 19, 2007. They were joined by two beautiful daughters, Madison (2½ years old) and Kylee (17 months old). Looking for a place to call home, Matt and Bonnie moved from ranch to ranch where they finally created roots in Kintyre, N.D. There was nothing Matt wouldn’t do for his girls. They meant more to him than anything in this world and he was a very loving husband and father.
Matt tried his luck in the rodeo circuit as a saddle bronc rider until a horse got the best of him. Matt and his dirty old hat were recognized everywhere he went. His lifelong dream was to have his own ranch to call home and Bonnie and he were well on their way. Cattle and horses were his passion and he loved sharing that passion with his family. Matt loved taking his girls to work with him on the farm. He found God this past year and he and his family attended the Trinity Lutheran Church in Kintyre, N.D. During their time in Kintyre, they made many special friends in the community.
Matt left us suddenly at his home near Kintyre, N.D., on July 29, 2009, leaving behind many loved ones. He will truly be missed and always be loved.
He is survived by: his wife, Bonnie (Leppell) Mavity, his daughters, Shannah Marie, Madison Paige and Kylee Jo; his father, Casey (Kim) Mavity Lambert, Mont.; his mother, Michelle (Cody) Lobdell, Glendive, Mont.; brothers, Dustin (Lisa) Mavity, Glasgow, Mont., and Gage Lobdell, Glendive, Mont.; grandfather, Glenn Mavity, Sidney, Mont.; grandparents, Gary and Sally Sodt, Richey, Mont.; four nieces and nephews and several uncles, aunts, cousins, and in-laws.
