Janice Johnson

Janice Johnson, 69, of Gresham, Ore., formerly of Watford City, N.D., died Wednesday evening Dec. 4, 2013, at her Gresham residence.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at the Chapel of First Lutheran Church. Pastor Ben Lovan officiated. Interment followed at Hillside Memory Gardens in Williston.
Janice Fay was born the middle of five children to Henry and Elva (Anklam) Torstenson on July 17, 1944, in Williston, N.D. She was raised on a farm in Farland Township, McKenzie County and educated in the Watford City School System. She was raised in, baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at First Lutheran Church in Watford City. She graduated from Watford City High School in 1963 and shortly after went out to Vancouver, Wash., to attend beautician’s school.  Janice met Arnold (Arnie) Johnson in Williston and they married in Vancouver, Wash., on Oct. 17, 1964. She put her education on hold and devoted herself to her family of three children, Lynn, Christi and Craig. The couple returned to Williston for a brief time and then returned to the west coast and settled in Gresham, Ore., for these many years. She and her husband owned and operated the Arnold E. Johnson Painting Company, a business dealing primarily in new home construction painting contracts.  After Arnie became ill, they changed the name of the company to her name and continued the dedicated services of professional painting in the Gresham area.
Arnie died on Feb. 16, 2012. Janice was known for her warm and loving smile and her genuine caring character. She was well loved by family and friends, was very forgiving and generous with everyone. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, raising both flowers and vegetables and reading, especially mysteries. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Janice is survived by her son, Lynn Johnson, of Portland, Ore.; daughter, Christi Johnson, of Gresham, Ore.; one grandson, Deric Johnson, of Portland, Ore.; three sisters, Lois Holton, of Everett, Wash., Myrna Tiley and Kathie (Arvin) Danielson, both of Naples, Fla.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Arnold, son, Craig, and brother, Jerome Torstenson.
