Joyce Lanphear

Joyce G. Lanphear, 83, of Grassy Butte, N.D., more recently Killdeer, N.D., died Monday, Aug. 19, 2013, at the Hill Top Home of Comfort in Killdeer. Cremation has taken place. Private family graveside services will be held at a later date in Grassy Butte.
Joyce was born on Jan. 28, 1930, in Grassy Butte, the daughter of William and Gladys (Gottshalk) Luckow. She was raised on the family farm east of Grassy Butte and attended the Red School.
On Nov. 27, 1948, Joyce was united in marriage to Lyndon Lanphear.  They made their first home in Fargo where Lyndon attended Hanson Automotive School. They later moved to Watford City in 1950 and eventually moved to Grassy Butte, where they operated Lynn’s Service for 28 years. Joyce worked side by side with Lyndon operating the business.  They retired in 1982 from the business and had a rural mail route east of Grassy Butte. Lyndon died on Sept. 21, 1998.  She continued to live north of Grassy Butte until entering the Hilltop Home of Comfort in Killdeer, where she has been a resident since.
Joyce was a member of the Grassy Butte Community Club and was active in the Grassy Butte Community Picnic for many years. She also served as Curator at the Old Grassy Butte Post Office Museum for a number of years.
Joyce’s hobbies included embroidery, Jig-Saw, Circle and Crossword Puzzles.
She is survived by three sons, Don of Grassy Butte, N.D., Ronald of Dickinson, N.D. and Jerry of Battle Mountain, Nev.; along with 10 nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law, Bob Olson and Milton Johnson.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, three sisters, one brother and two nieces.
