Delcina Fretland, 85, of Williston, N.D., more recently of Sidney, Mont., died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at the Sidney Health Center. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at the Lutheran Brethren Fellowship Church in Williston. Interment followed at River view Cemetery in Williston.
Delcina Mae Green was born to Dessie (Clanton) and Bealer Green on March 8, 1928. She was raised on the family farm six miles north of Alexander. She attended Charbonneau School and Alexander High School, from which she graduated in 1948. She attended Northwest Nazarene College in Nampa, Idaho, for a year. She then attended Minot State College and Dickinson State College, receiving her teaching certificate. She taught at Red Wing School and Tipton School for two years each as well as Wilson School near Watford City for one year. She began working for NW Bell Telephone, then Mercy Medical and Schlumberger Oil Company as a print clerk. She worked after that as a maid and launderer.
In 1958 she married Duane Fretland in Sidney, Mont. In the ensuing years, she raised five children to maturity. In 1981 her first grandchild was born and so was the best Gramma ever! They all became the light of her life. Even in her last days, she lit up when the little ones entered the room.
She loved music and willingly played the piano at anyone’s request. As a young woman she played the piano for weddings and funerals and Sunday services. She sang alto in choirs with a clear beautiful voice. She loved harmonizing to old time gospel songs.
Mom was active in Christian women’s club and Stonecroft Ministries. She never missed a birthday club with the ladies from the neighborhood. She was an active member of the Lutheran Brethren Church in Williston. She laughed easily and loved much. She lived out I Corinthians, the love chapter of the Bible, daily. She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her and will be missed very much by her family.
Mom is survived her sister, Marjorie Fleming of Vancouver, Wash.; her children and their families, Mark (Ramon) Fretland of Long Beach, Calif., Kim Holloway of Williston, N.D., and her children, Laurie Becker of Williston, N.D., and her children, Marilee (Larry) Anderson of Sidney, Mont., and their children, and Tom (Bonnie) Fretland of Williston, N.D., and their children; her sister-in-law, JoAnn Green of Williston, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews. She has 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two infant children, Lawrence James and April Dawn; her husband, Duane; her parents; her brother, Doyle Green; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” – I Corinthians 13:4-8a
