Dorothy Jacobson

Dorothy Marie Jacobson was born Oct. 5, 1918, in the depot in Arnegard, N.D, to Christine Rapp and Arthur J. Bauman. She passed away July 18, 2013, at Billings Clinic, Billings, Mont.
Her funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 23, 1013, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alexander, N.D. Rev. Kevin Beard officiated and interment was in the Alexander Cemetery.
Her father was a Great Northern depot agent. The family lived in Arnegard, Trenton, and Alexander, N.D., after she was born. Dorothy graduated from Alexander High School. She graduated in two and a half years with a teaching degree from Minot State University where she played first base on the fast and slow pitch softball teams and played piano for the music and drama departments. She taught grades one through eight for one year in Rawson, N.D., later teaching high school English for many years in Alexander. She taught piano lessons, often trading services.
Dorothy married J. Garvin Jacobson in Alexander on June 12, 1943. They farmed and ranched. Garv died in 1990.
She enjoyed reading eclectically, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, playing the piano and organ, and dogs, especially golden retrievers. She was an avid baseball fan-especially the Minnesota Twins and Derek Jeter of the Yankees
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Alexander, where she was church organist for over 30 years. She was a member of Eastern Star and the American Legion Auxiliary. She loved to travel and had been in all 50 states.
Survivors include her three children: Jim (Barb) of Alexander, Janet (Gary Stevenson) of Billings, Mont., and John of Sidney, Mont., foster son Lauren (Grace) Larson of Lake Metigoshe, N.D., six grandchildren: Jon (Shelly) Jacobson, Todd (Terrille) Jacobson, Tami (Kevin Nelson), Amber (Jeff Hanig), Jill Stevenson (Brian Mathis), and Kaja Stevenson (Charles Cavanaugh), three step-grandchildren: Garnet, T.J., and Dusty Bratsberg, and 11 great-grandchildren: Layne, Tayden, Trace, Laken, Trey, Tarynn, BriAnn, C.J., Kortney, Dayden and Hunter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and four brothers: Harry, Walter, Bill, and Dick Bauman.
