Randall Nelson

Randall "Randy" Nelson, 70, of Williston, died at Trinity Medical Center in Minot, on Monday evening, July 1, 2013.
A celebration of Randy’s life will be held Sunday afternoon, July 14, 2013, from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at DK’s Lounge in Williston, N.D.
Randy Nelson was born Jan. 15, 1943, to William and Wilma (Lanz) Nelson in Williston, N.D. He attended grade school in Alexander and High School in Williston. After graduating from Williston High School, Randy served in the United States Army from 1964 to 1966 as a Medic at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C.
Randy returned to Williston to farm and also start his lifelong career in the oil patch. Working for International Drilling Fluids, U.S. Sales Manager for Oilind Safety and Elk Horn Mud and Chemical Company. He owned the Midway Lounge, Randy’s Office and Lonesome Dove Lounge in Mandan, N.D. In later years, he tended bar at DK’s Lounge.
Randy was united in marriage to Nina Hjelmeland on March 18, 1967. To this union, their son, Todd, was born. They later divorced.
Randy was a member of the American Legion, The Legion Housing Committee, serving as commander for a time, Forty et 8, serving as president for one year, and the Williston Drum and Bugle Corp for 25 years.
Randy enjoyed hunting, playing pinochle, sports and especially watching golf. He leaves behind a host of many treasured friends and pinochle buddies.
Randy is survived by his son, Todd Nelson (fiance Steph Bromley) of Williston; one grandson, Jesse Nelson of Williston; a brother, Don Nelson (Marlene) of Williston and their children, Kami Berrett and Kari Andren; and a sister, Cassandra Figaro of Elk Horn, Wisc., and her daughter, Michelle Souligny.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Wilma Nelson; brother, A.E. (Gene) Nelson; and longtime companion, Sandy Fetzer.
Memorials may be directed to the Lions Eye Bank of North Dakota, 301 North 4th Street, Bismarck, North Dakota 58501. Randy was a proud donor to the Lions Eye Bank of North Dakota.
