Roy attended country school and Alexander High School. Roy and several of his brothers worked in the Civilian Conservation Corps. Roy and Ray entered on July 7, 1937. They worked in Medora, N.D., and Camp Cook in S.D., on road projects and in Minneapolis and Allen, Minn., on forestry projects.
