William Russell

Memorial service for William Henry Russell, 70, of Grassy Butte, N.D., was held Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Grassy Butte with Pastor Jay Reinke officiating. Pallbearers were his grandchildren, William Russell, Lexie Russell, Kaden Schulte, Emily Russell, Gracey Russell, and Jonathan Russell. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.
Bill died early Friday morning, July 20, 2012 in the McKenzie County Hospital in Watford City, N.D.
William “Bill” Henry Russell was born Oct. 15, 1941, to Charles and Marie (Gramm) Russell in Hazen, N.D. He was raised north of Stanton, N.D., and graduated from Stanton High School in 1959.
On July 8, 1959, Bill married Carol Smith at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Stanton. He worked for the Painters Union all over the west coast before purchasing his grandfather’s home-place north of Stanton. He joined the Iron Workers Union Local 793 and was a member until the time of his death.
In 1978, Bill, Carol, and family moved to a ranch west of Grassy Butte, N.D., and this is where they have resided ever since.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carol; his sons, Lonnie (Pam) Russell and son William, of Stanton, N.D.; Charles Russell and his children, Lexie, Emily and Gracie, of Grassy Butte, N.D.; his daughters, LeAnne Russell and her daughter Kayden, of Hazen, N.D.; Susie Russell and her son Jonathan, of Grassy Butte, N.D.; his sisters, Sally (Vernon) Smith, and Jane Clayton; and several nieces and nephews.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents and his two infant children, Sam and Sarah.
