Leo Yesel, 79, of Watford City, N.D., died Monday, May 14, 2012, at the McKenzie County Hospital in Watford City.
Funeral Mass was held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 19, 2012, at the Epiphany Catholic Church in Watford City with Father John Pfeifer presiding. Rosary was recited at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, May 18, 2012, at the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Watford City. Burial took place at the Schafer Cemetery under the care of Fulkerson Funeral Home of Watford City. Military honors were provided by Carl E. Rogen, American Legion Post #29 Drill Team and the North Dakota Honor Guard.
Leo was born on March 13, 1933, in Burwick, N.D., the son of Mathew and Elizabeth (Ell) Yesel. When Leo was 12 years old, the family moved to Watford City, N.D. In 1951 during the Korean War, Leo joined the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged in 1955 and returned to Watford City to live. Leo worked on drilling rigs and drove a truck in the oil field. He retired from Koch trucking after 25 years and remained in Watford City.
Leo loved to go fishing, metal detecting, traveling and working on cars. The kids always came to Grandpa to fix everything and anything. Leo also enjoyed laughing, joking and going places with John.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Yesel, Watford City, N.D.; his two sons, Steven (Stephanie) Yesel, Bismarck, N.D. and Blaine (Lisa) Yesel, Melbourne, Fla.; his two daughters, Charlene (Curtis) Samuelson, and Teresa (Kent) Norbeck, all of Watford City, N.D.; his two sisters, Irene Snortland, Roundup, Mont., and Emily (Larry) Mosbrucker, Dickinson, N.D.; 18 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sons, Leon Yesel and Kelly Yesel.
