Interment was in the Sidney Cemetery, Sidney, Mont., under the direction of the Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.fulkersons.com.
Beverly “Bev” was born Sept. 11, 1942, in Sidney, Mont., to Ervin F. and Wilma Joyce (McCoy) Johnson. Bev was raised on the farm and family lumberyard business on the outskirts west of Sidney which was later turned into the Johnson subdivision that her father had developed. She attended Sidney High School where she was an active Pep band member, played the flute, and involved in Rainbow, graduating in 1960. Bev attended the University of Montana-Missoula for one year specializing in business. She then returned to her hometown of Sidney and worked at the Federal Land Bank. High school sweethearts, Bev and Edsel “Ed” Robert Schilling were united in marriage June 1, 1962. Their 50th wedding anniversary would have been celebrated this year.
The couple moved to Havre, Mont., to attend the Northern Montana College for four years. Bev worked at Montana Power and they started their family. They moved to Scobey, Mont., where they both worked in the school system, Bev as a librarian and Ed in the VoTech Department. Bev served as President of the Scobey Jaycees in 1970.
In 1974, they moved back home to Sidney, Mont., where Bev worked side-byside with Ed in the construction business, farming and ranching, and running Rooney Operating for 20 years.
Bev and Ed discovered weekend peace and “no phone calls” by spending time at Tobacco Gardens in the early 70s. Family and friends would gather every weekend enjoying great food, fishing, boating and spending time in the sun on the beaches. Bev was an avid fisherwoman and an excellent cook. She loved having her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids and friends around and always had a joke to tell. Bev and Ed moved permanently to the lake house in 2004.
Ed and Bev sold their businesses and retired in 1999. They went south to the warm weather in Yuma, Ariz., where they discovered Friendly Acres Mobile Park and were blessed with a whole new, wonderful group of friends. Bev loved the warmth of the sun and going to Mexico to the flea markets.
Bev suffered a massive stroke in 2003, leaving her paralyzed in body but not in mind and soul. Ed was truly a life-long committed companion, taking care of her at home until her passing hour.
Bev enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Ed built her a room with large windows to be able to look out at the lake and watch the birds. She loved the gardens and flowers. Campfires on warm summer nights were a must, with plenty of s’mores. She painted many birdhouses for the birds at the lake and gave them away as gifts. Some of her most precious time was spent on her “dream boat,” as she called it, the pontoon Ed bought her for her birthday in 2010. Many good memories were created with family and friends on the pontoon.
Bev was diagnosed with cancer in March, 2012. She went home to the Lord and her dad on Thursday morning, April 19, 2012. Our wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandma, great- grandma and friend will be dearly missed. Run through the grasses of heaven, free of pain, we love you!
