Margaret Verplancke

Mass of the Christian Burial for Margaret Verplancke, 93, was held Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011, at the St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Fairview, Mont., with Father Jim O’Neil and Father Ned Shinnick presiding. The wake service was held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church. Music was provided by Janet Duda and Carrie Torgerson. Casketbearers were Shawn Verplancke, Greg Thiel, Jim Verplancke, Kristina Batalden, Kimberly Lewis, Jody Verplancke Davis, and JoAnn Karst. Honorary Casketbearers are all of her wonderful friends and neighbors. Ushers were Jason Batalden and Joe Lewis. Interment took place in the Fairview Cemetery. Margaret was born in Grassy Butte, N.D., to parents, Matt and Francis (Kowis) Fleck, on Sept. 21, 1917. She grew up and attended area schools, moving in 1937 to East Fairview, N.D.
On Jan. 1, 1938, she was united in marriage to Julius Verplancke. They made their home on the Verplancke homestead. Together they had three children, one son and two daughters. Julius passed away in February of 1957. Margaret continued to live at the homestead until she entered the Sidney Health Extended Care Facility in December of 2010, where she died on Saturday, Jan. 8, 2011.
Margaret is survived by two daughters, Julie Verplancke, Cartwright, N.D., and Bernadette Montagne, Sheridan, Wyo; a son, Richard Verplancke, Buffalo, Wyo.; grandchildren, Greg (April) Thiel, Williston, N.D., Kristina (Jason) Batalden, Idaho Falls, Idaho, Kimberly (Joe) Lewis, Idaho Falls, Idaho, JoAnn Karst, Fairview, Mont., Shawn (Judy) Verplancke, Buffalo, Wyo., Jim (Jodi) Verplancke, Buffalo, Wyo., Jodi Verplancke Davis, Casper, Wyo., Mindy (Tim) Cahhal, Buffalo, Wyo., and Shane (Jade) Rasmussen, Shepherd, Mont.; great-grandchildren, Jerica (Quintin) Miller, Shania Thiel, Safari Thiel, Kimber Thiel, Liberty Thiel, Greyson Thiel, Justin Batalden, Jordan Batalden, Gaby Batalden, Gunner Batalden, Miranda Karst, Mariah Karst, Logan Verplancke, Taya Verplancke, Kade Hengel, Zane Hengel, Cassie Hengel, Tanner Verplancke, Sierra Verplancke, Jerayah Davis, Jaliegah Davis, Jevon Davis, Natalie Cahhal, Alex Cahhal, Ella Rae Rasmussen, Alex and John Reidle; and a great-great-grandchild coming in May; two sisters, Edith Crew, Billings, Mont., and Connie Swenson, Glendive, Mont.; and a special dachshund named Trigger.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and four brothers, infant Joe Fleck, Frank, Raymond and Martin.
