Spikers wrap up regular season

Watford City’s varsity volleyball team wrapped up its regular season play last week posting wins over Heart River and Hazen.
This week, the Wolves will be playing in the District 15 Tournament, which concludes on Thursday at the Northern Lights Center in New Town and then moving on to the Region Tournament, which is also being played in New Town. Regional action runs Nov. 8 through 11 at the Northern Lights Center.
Watford City 3, Heart River 0
McKayla Haugeberg had 14 kills and 18 digs as the Wolves rolled over the Heart River Cougars 25-19, 26-24 and 25-18 on Oct. 25.
“The girls were ready to play against Heart River,” stated Nancy Deutsch, Wolves’ head coach. “Everything was clicking as we made our passes, sets and hits, and our defense was all over the floor.”

It took the Wolves five sets, but the Wolves came out on top of Hazen 3-2 to close out their regular season with a 9-4 dual record and a 19-11 record.
The Wolves won the first two sets 25-17 and 25-19 before dropping the next two sets 25-18 and 26-24. In the fifth and final set, Watford City edged the Bison 15-12.
“We  hustled and were determined to win the fifth set,” stated Deutsch. “It was a close one, but the girls kept their heads in the game.”
Dani Bates led the Wolves with three service aces, while Charlie Hystad had 15 kills and McKayla Haugeberg had 34 digs.
