Watford City to host District 15 boys basketball tournament

For the six boys basketball teams that make up District 15, the road to the State Class B Boys Basketball Tournament begins Friday in Watford City as the District 15 Tournament gets underway at the Watford City High School gymnasium.
The Mandaree Warriors and the Watford City Wolves are the heavy favorites to win this year’s tournament. The top four teams from the District 15 Tournament, which will conclude on Monday, March 1, will advance to the Region 8 Tournament.
This past week, the Wolves closed out their regular season play as Watford City improved its record to 16-3 defeating Parshall and Hazen before falling to Dickinson Trinity.

Watford City 57, Parshall 42
Three Watford City players scored in double figures as the Wolves cruised by the Parshall Braves 57-42 last Tuesday.
While the Wolves would trail the Braves 11-10 at the end of the first quarter, Watford City would take the lead early in the second quarter and then use an explosive fourth quarter to put the game on ice.
Reid Johnson paced both teams in scoring with 16 points, while Shawn Fulwider and Nick Liebel netted 14 and 10 points, respectively in the win.
Watford City led Parshall 25-22 at halftime and by six points, 39-33 at the end of three quarters of play. The Wolves then slammed the door shut on any Parshall comeback as Watford City outscored the Braves 18-9 in the win.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Tyler Flatland with nine points and Trey Jacobson with eight points.

Watford City 58, Hazen 45
After trailing Hazen 14-12 at the end of the first quarter of play, Watford City used a good second quarter and a decisive third quarter to pull out a 58-45 win over the Bison last Thursday.
Watford City took control of the game in the second quarter outscoring the Bison 12-8 to hold a 24-22 halftime lead. But the Wolves blew the game wide open in the third quarter going on a 15-4 scoring spree that propelled Watford City to the win.
Watford City used a very balanced scoring attack that saw four Watford City players in double digits as the Wolves picked up their 15th win of the season.
Reid Johnson and Shawn Fulwider paced the Wolves in scoring with 13 points each, while Nick Liebel and Tyler Flatland netted 10 points each. Also scoring for Watford City in the game was Trey Jacobson with nine points and Dillon Langerud with three points.
For the game, the Wolves shot 25 of 37 from the field for 68 percent and were good on five of 18 at the charity stripe.

Dickinson Trinity 60, Watford City 46
Watford City had no answer for Dickinson Trinity’s hot hand from three-point land as the Wolves fell to the Titans 60-46 last Friday.
The Titans drained 10 three-pointers, including eight by Robbie Morey, as Dickinson Trinity handed the Wolves their third loss of the season.
The Titans outscored the Wolves in all four quarters of play and led 15-11 at the end of the first quarter and 26-19 at halftime.
Trey Jacobson led the Wolves in scoring with 20 points, while Nick Liebel and Tyler Flatland netted seven points each.
Rounding out the scoring for the Wolves was Shawn Fulwider with six points, Reid Johnson with four points and Dillon Langerud with three points.
