Wolves girls drop two games in varsity girls cage action

Watford City’s varsity girls basketball team dropped a pair of games this week as the Wolves fell to North Shore/Plaza 52-49 last Thursday and to Beach 59-23 on Saturday.
With the losses, the Wolves’ season record dropped to 2-6.

North Shore/Plaza 52, Watford City 49

After finding themselves trailing the Wildcats 14-4 at the end of the first quarter of play Watford City battled back in the second quarter to deadlock North Shore/Plaza 24-24 at halftime.
But as in their past games, the Wolves struggled to find consistent offensive play in the second half as Watford City fell to the Wildcats 52-49 in District 15 action last Thursday.
North Shore dominated the third quarter action outscoring the Wolves 14-7 and then Watford City had to fight their way back into the game in the final eight minutes of play.
Alexis Sanford paced the Wolves in scoring with 12 points on four three-pointers while McKayla Haugeberg netted 10 points.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Jayme Johnson with nine points, Dani Bates with eight points, Olivia Sundeen and Shakira McLaughlin with four points each, while Marti Quale ended the game with two points.
For the game, the Wolves shot 36 percent from the field, hitting on 21 of 58 attempts and were good on just one of eight attempts at the charity stripe for 13 percent.

Beach 59, Watford City 23
Watford City was no match for the No. 1-rated Beach on Saturday as the Wolves fell to the Bucs 59-23.
Beach jumped out to an 11-7 first quarter lead and then outscored the Wolves 15-4 in the second stanza to take a 26-11 lead into the lockers at halftime. Beach continued to dominate the play in the second half outscoring the Wolves 19-2 and 14-10 in the final two stanzas.
Alexis Sanford led the Wolves in scoring with six points while Dani Bates netted five points. Also scoring for Watford City was McKayla Haugeberg with four points, Marti Quale with three points, Olivia Sundeen and Stephanie Deutsch with two points each and Ashli Foli with one point.
For the game, the Wolves shot eight of 29 from the field for 23 percent and were good on four of  five at the charity stripe for 80 percent.
