Katie Mogen of the 2016 Watford City varsity girls basketball team is one of five players named to the Class B All State girls basketball team by the North Dakota Associated Press Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association.
Mogen, who was named to the second team the past two seasons, averaged 13.6 points, 6.2 rebounds, 3.9 steals and 3.8 assists for the Wolves this past season. Mogen helped guide the Wolves to a second place finish at the 2016 State Class B Girls Basketball Tournament where she was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
“Katie isn’t a big post player,’’ Watford City Coach John Zenz said. “But she’s a smart player with good instincts and she’s a strong, power type of player, which allowed her to hold her own against other quality big kids. She made our other kids better because she’s such a good passer.”
Joining Mogen on the first team was Rylee Nudell of Maple Valley High School, Shaice Marx of Thompson, Macey Kvilvang of North Star and Anna Holen of LaMoure-Litchville-Marion.
Those players named to the second team were Olivia Anderson of Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier, Maycie Brunelle of Trenton-Trinity Christian, Shea Heidlebaugh of Rugby, Abbie Jiles of Westhope-Newburg, Madison Kaehler of Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah, Morgan Olson of Minot Our Redeemer’s, Emily Overby of Thompson, Paige Schmidt of Kidder County, Sheyenne Schmidt of Minot Ryan, Alanna Sickler of Dickinson Trinity, Krista Ulmer of Bismarck Shiloh Christian, and Lexy Wittmayer of Rolette-Wolford.
