The Watford City varsity boys basketball team picked up its second win of the season on Saturday as the Wolves downed the Bowman County Bulldogs, 65-49.
“It was a good win for our confidence,” stated Randy Cranston, Wolves’ head coach. “While we still had 19 turnovers, we did a better job of taking care of the ball and played better defense.”
Watford City got off to a decisive, 16-9, first quarter lead with Bowman never challenging in the contest.
The Wolves led the Bulldogs, 34-21, at halftime and by 18 points, 53-35, going into the final eight minutes of play.
Seth Indergard had the hot hand for the Wolves as he netted a game high 21 points, including making two three-pointers.
“We had a good mix of scoring by going 15 of 19 from the free-throw line, as well as making four three-pointers and hitting 19 two-pointers,” stated Cranston.
Rounding out the scoring for the Wolves was Cole McGorman with nine points, Kason Hartel and Jarek Hogue with eight points each, Korbin Knutson with seven points, Heath Chaffin with four points, Nevada Berquist and Logan Mehlhoff with two points each, while Jessen Homiston ended the game with one point.
The Wolves, who are 2-3 on the season, will next take on Class A Bismarck St. Mary’s on Friday, Jan. 8.
“St. Mary’s will present us with some challenges,” stated Cranston. “However, I feel we will understand what is going to be expected from us and what taking a step up to the next level is like.”
