Runners compete at Rapid City

Asha Smith and Kayla Ogle proved that they will be a force to be reckoned with as they placed 10th and 11th, respectively, at the Rapid City Invitational on Sept. 25. Smith finished in a time of 20:27.1, while Ogle completed the course in 20:32.1.
“We had a great day in Rapid City,” stated Greg Brown, Wolves’ head coach. “The course was a beautiful, challenging course, and the athletes all ran very well.”
At the Rapid City Meet, the girls ran a 5K course, which is the same distance as the boys run.
The Watford City varsity boys team also had a good showing as the Wolves placed 10th with Raehs Peutz placing 14th individually in a time of 17:59.0.
Also placing for the boys was Dakota Garmann, 48th, 19:20.8; Osman Leon, 71st, 20:31.0; Devin Schmitz, 81st, 21:20.7; Jack Gillispey, 84th, 21:32.0; and Ethan Lyon, 87th, 22:15.5.
“Our athletes are running very well as we start to approach the end of our season,” stated Brown. “We will be going to Minot this weekend to run mainly against the WDA teams to start getting our athletes ready to compete at that level.”
In the junior varsity boys division, Hunter DeFoe took 34th with a time of 20:54.2, followed by Cole McGorman, 71st, 22:52.5; Cauy Hartel, 75th, 22:58.4; Isaac Concepcion, 97th, 24:48.9; Andrew Trottier, 102nd, 25:54.7; and Tanner Ponto, 111th, 30:55.5.
In the junior varsity division, Rebecca Campbell placed 66th with a time of 29:19.6.
In the junior high girls division, Hayley Ogle took third with a time of 12:05.4, followed by Ellie Schmitz, 35th, 13:43.1; Gemma Campbell, 77th, 14:40.0; Gabby Hogue, 87th, 14:57.5; and Amelia Honstein, 181st, 22:32.9.
Chris Ferry finished in 240th place in the junior high boys division in a time of 18:43.1.
