Watford runners take third at home meet

Kayla Ogle and Asha Smith crossed the finish line in first and second place, respectively, to help lead the Watford City girls cross country team to a third place finish at the Watford City Invitational on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
Kayla bested the field of runners from across western North Dakota with a time of 16:04.38, while Smith crossed the finish line seven seconds back.
In the varsity boys division, Raehs Peutz helped the Wolves to a third place finish as he took sixth place with a time of 18:39.26.
“The teams are starting to pull together,” stated Greg Brown, Wolves’ head coach. “While we are increasing our distances in practices, the runners’ times are holding. Which means they are starting to  get into better shape.”
Also finishing for the girls varsity team was Hayley Ogle, 16th,  18:28.56; Ellie Schmitz, 32nd, 20:44.98; and Gabby Hogue, 42nd, 22:18.39.
Following Peutz across the finish line in the varsity boys division for the Wolves was Dakota Garmann, 12th, 19:57.06; Osman Leon, 16th, 20:31.46; Devin Schmitz, 18th, 20:40.63; Cole McGorman, 36th, 22:43.71; Ethan Lyon, 37th,  22:45.67; Cauy Hartel, 41st, 23:01.07; Hunter DeFoe, 42nd, 23:09.08; Jack Gillispey, 44th, 23:23.91; Isaac Concepcion, 49th, 24:36.75; and Andrew Trottier, 51st, 26:19.89.
In last Tuesday’s meet, Chris Ferry took 11th in the junior varsity boys division with a time of 20:20.01, while Svea Pearson and Amelia Honstein finished in a time of 19:20.74 and 23:57.86, respectively, to place 16th and 20th in the junior varsity girls division.
Becki Wells Invitational
On Saturday, Sept. 19, the Wolves competed in the Becki Wells Invitational in Dickinson, which featured runners from Class A and B schools.
Asha Smith took eighth place individually with a time of 15:20.73 for the Wolves in the varsity girls division, while the boys team took 11th place.
Raehs Peutz led the Wolves’ varsity boys team with a 30th place finish with a time of 17:22.60. Also placing for Watford City was Dakota Garmann, 56th, 18:39.00; Osman Leon, 63rd, 19:31.00; Jack Gillispey, 72nd, 20:12.90; and Devin Schmitz, 75th, 21:07.90.
In the boys junior varsity division, Ethan Lyon finished 35th with a time of 20:17.90, followed by Hunter DeFoe, 49th, 21:13.90; Cauy Hartel, 53rd, 21:28.60; and Andrew Trottier, 72nd, 24:05.33.
Chris Ferry finished in 78th place in the boys junior high division with a time of 16:04.43 . In the junior high girls division, Ellie Schmitz was 17th with a time of 12:19.06, followed by Gabby Hogue, 46th, 13:27.21; and Svea Pearson, 75th, 19:07.78.
“This week we are going to Rapid City to try a big meet,” stated Brown. “At this meet the varsity girls will be running a 5K race instead of their normal 4K. This is probably what we will be heading to for the girls distance in the near future. This is an exciting race for the kids as we will be one of the few teams from North Dakota at this meet.”
