Watford City’s cross country teams continue to show improvement as the boys team placed third, while the girls team took fourth at the Bowman Meet on Sept. 3.
“I feel once again our athletes showed up and competed extremely well,” stated Greg Brown, Wolves’ head coach. “We have been upping our mileage in practice, which leaves tired legs come meet day.’
Raehs Peutz paced the boys team with a fourth place finish with a time of 18:07.49, while Kayla Ogle took second in the girls division with a time of 16:00.46.
“We do need to start working on more consistency, especially on the boys side of the program,” stated Brown. “We have great runners in our entire program. But we do see quickly when there is a lack of proper eating and sleeping when they are out running these distances, so we will continue to work hard in practice, and try to get the athletes to be consistent with their habits.”
Also placing for the boys team was  Dakota Garmann, 12th, 19:16.05;  Osman Leon, 14th, 19:21.46; Devin Schmitz, 28th, 21:12.41; Hunter DeFoe, 29th, 21:18.13; Ethan Lyon, 30th, 21:40.52; Jack Gillispey, 31st,  21:42.88; and Cole McGorman, 35th, 23:40.61.
Hayley Ogle finished in 11th with  a time of 17:52.10, followed by Ellie Schmitz, 18th, 18:59.94, and Gabbie Hogue, 22nd, 20:59.52.
In the junior varsity boys division,  Cauy Hartel placed eighth with a time of 13:08.64, followed by Andrew Trottier, 18th, 14:30.45, and Tanner Ponto, 22nd, 16:56.19
Svea Pearson placed 26th with a time of 22:20.89 in the junior high girls division.
The Wolves’ next meet will be at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 15, when they host a meet at the Fox Hills Golf Course.
