The 2015 North Dakota State Track and Field Meet will be a track meet that Watford City’s Ricki Lindley will cherish for a long time. The Watford City junior won the State title in the triple jump with a leap of 36’9.5,” took fourth place in the long jump with a 17’3” effort, and was a member of the Wolves’ 800 meter relay team that took sixth place with a time of 1:49.97.
Lindley ended up the two-day track meet earning 18 of Watford City’s 63 points.
The Watford City girls ended the State Track Meet with 63 points, just trailing third place Carrington by 3½ points.
“The girls preformed extremely well at the State meet,” stated Greg Brown, Wolves’ girls head coach. “Most came home with season Personal Bests. And that is what we are looking for at this time of year.”
Nessa Mathews took second for Watford in the shot put with a throw of 41’6.5” to improve on her third place finish at State last season, while Asha Smith, Bridget Allex and Mikka Haugeberg finished in third place in the 800 meter run, the 100 meter hurdles and the pole vault, respectively.
“The girls excelled all over the track as the results show,” stated Brown. “But what the results do not show is how close some of our athletes were to making the finals.”
According to Brown, the girls team came up just short in four preliminary events with Watford City athletes coming in at 10th place.
“We had some younger athletes that stepped up and proved that they are ready to take over and become big contributors to the team,” stated Brown. “Our seniors this year have taught the younger athletes how to be competitive and to strive to become the best.”
The Watford City girls also placed in three relay events at State with the 3,200 meter relay team, consisting of Kayla Ogle, Morgan Rolfsrud, Lindsay Peterson and Asha Smith, taking third in a time of 10:09.66, while the 1,600 meter relay team of Mikka Haugeberg, Lea Arndt, Kara Langerud and Asha Smith took fourth with a time of 4:13.77.
