The Watford City varsity boys golf team competed in tournaments this past week at Burlington and Stanley with the Wolves winning the Burlington Invite and taking third at Stanley.
“It was good to get a few tournaments in this week,” stated Scott Wisness, Wolves’ head coach. “Colter Maki and Mitchell Liebel did well, but can definitely improve their scores to be right up there with the top golfers in the region. If they can, it will help out our team score.”
At Burlington, the Wolves carded a score of 336 to edge Tioga by one stroke to win the tournament. Mitchell Liebel and Jonathan Dunn led Watford City with scores of 80 and 82, respectively. Also scoring for the Wolves was Colter Maki, 86; Korbin Knutson, 88; Cody Johnson, 89; and Charles Villanueva, 94.
At Stanley, Watford City carded a team score of 342 to trail Lewis & Clark, 336, and Kenmare, 338.
Mitchell Liebel and Colter Maki paced the Wolves with scores of 84 and 85, respectively, while Jake Rogness finished the 18 holes with a score of 86. Also scoring for Watford City was Jonathan Dunn, 87; Korbin Knutson, 96; and Devyn Marquardt,  98.
“We know what we need to work on and can hopefully get on the course to get where we need to be,” states Wisness.
The Wolves will be competing in the regional qualifier in New Town on May 1 and at the Hazen Invitational on May 3.
