Watford girls drop final two games

The Watford City varsity girls basketball team dropped the final two games of their regular season as the Wolves fell to Parshall, 61-54, on Feb. 18, and then lost to Dickinson Trinity, 64-48, on Saturday.
The Wolves, who saw their season record drop to 14-5, will now be advancing to the District 15 Tournament, which gets underway on Friday, Feb. 28, at the Northern Lights Community Center in New Town. Watford City, which is the No. 3 seed in the tournament, will take on Mandaree, the No. 6 seed, at 7 p.m. on Friday in first round action of the tournament.

Parshall 61, Watford City 54
Watford City just couldn’t get the baskets that they needed in the fourth quarter as the Wolves fell to the Parshall Braves, 61-54, in a key District 15 matchup last Tuesday.
The Wolves found themselves trailing the Braves, 18-13, at the end of the first quarter of play, and then battled back in the second quarter as Watford City outscored Parshall, 17-14, to cut their deficit to just two points, 32-32, at halftime.
In a very close scoring third quarter, the Wolves were able to trim Parshall’s lead to one point, 43-42, going into the final stanza. But the Braves were able to build on their lead in the final eight minutes to edge the Wolves, 61-54.
Katie Mogen  and Ricki Lindley paced Watford City in the losing effort as the pair netted 18 and 12 points, respectively.
Rounding out the scoring for the Wolves was Kaitlyn Grimes with eight points, Amanda Mogen and  Lea Arndt with seven points each and Jeanna Zenz with two points.

Dickinson Trinity 64, Watford City 48
Watford City got off to an uncharacteristic slow start against Dickinson Trinity last Saturday that cost the Wolves the game.
The Wolves found themselves trailing the Titans, 21-5, and struggled throughout the first half to find an offensive rhythm.
While Watford City was able to make a run in the third quarter outscoring Dickinson Trinity, 23-11, the damage was already done and the the Wolves were never able to dig themselves out of their huge first half hole.
The Wolves trailed the Titans by 16 points, 52-36, at the end of the third quarter, with that margin holding through the final eight minutes of play.
Katie Mogen  and Amanda Mogen paced the Wolves in scoring with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Also scoring for Watford City was Ricki Lindley with eight points, Kara Langerud with six points, KaitlynGrimes with five points, while Lea Arndt and Jeanna Zenz ended the game with two points each.
