With a 78-36 win over Trenton last week, the Watford City varsity girls basketball team improved its season record to 9-2. But the Wolves will be challenged this week as Divide County and Bowman County will be coming to town. The Wolves will be taking on Divide County on Friday and will then be seeking revenge of an earlier season loss to Bowman County on Saturday, Feb. 1.

Watford City 78, Trenton 36
Trenton was no match for Watford City last Thursday as the Wolves devoured the Tigers, 78-36.
While Trenton was able to stay with the Wolves for the first quarter of play, Watford City dominated the Tigers for the next three quarters.
“We put together a good all around game,” stated John Zenz, Wolves’ head coach. “They were able to get some good looks against our zone in the first quarter. But when we switched to a man-to-man defense, we really shut them down.”
And Watford City’s defensive switch worked.
After holding a 14-13 first quarter lead, Watford City’s defensive switch held the Tigers to just two second quarter points, while the Wolves’ offense exploded for 25 points.
And with Watford City holding a very comfortable 39-15 halftime lead, the game was pretty much over.
The Wolves held a 25-15 scoring advantage in the third quarter, and then coasted to the easy win outscoring the Tigers, 19-6, in the final eight minutes of play.
Katie Mogen had a big night for the Wolves as she led the team in scoring with 16 points, while grabbing nine rebounds and blocking two shots.
Also scoring in double figures for the Wolves was Ricki Lindley and Kaitlyn Grimes with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Rounding out the scoring for Watford City was Amanda Mogen with nine points, Kara Langerud and Alyssa Prichard with eight points each, Jeanna Zenz, Lea Arndt and Mackenzie Sparby with four points each and  Elise Hadley with three points.
For the game, the Wolves shot 47 percent from the field, hitting on 31 of 66 attempts, while making 10 of 17 at the charity stripe.
