It was a tough week for spikers

Watford City’s varsity volleyball team has had its share of “on” and “off” weeks as the Wolves struggle to put a winning combination on the floor. When the team is having an “on” week, the Wolves are able to handle just about any opponent. But when the “off” weeks roll around, it is quite a different story.
And last week was definitely one of those “off” weeks as the Wolves had a poor showing at the Beach Tournament, and then turned around and dropped three games to Dickinson Trinity last Tuesday.
With the District Tournament just around the corner, the Wolves are hoping that they are able to get things going in the remainder of their regular season.
This week, the Wolves will be on the road as they travel to Beulah on Friday, Oct. 25 and then travel to Washburn on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

Beach Tournament
Watford City got off to a good start at the Beach Tournament picking up wins over Richardton/Taylor by scores of 20-16 and 20-15, and Killdeer by scores of 20-16 and 20-15, in pool play. But the Wolves’ good fortunes started to go south as they split with Beach winning the first game, 20-16, before dropping the second game, 20-7.
Watford City was then eliminated from the tournament as the Wolves fell to Wibaux, 25-22 and 25-21, in the first round action.
“We lost in the first round of the tournament. And when that happens we go home early,” stated Nancy Deutsch, Wolves’ head coach. “We played well at times, but we need to be more consistent with our play.”
During the tournament, Tori Hopkins, Tarynn Jacobson and Tessa
Dwyer each had six service aces, while Ricki Lindley had 15 kills.
Defensively, Amanda Mogen led the Wolves with six blocks and 23 digs.
