After missing the last two cross country meets due to illness, Watford City’s Asha Smith finally got back into action on Saturday at the Glasgow Cross Country Meet. And in spite of missing practice time, Smith had a strong finish at Glasgow coming in second in the varsity girls division with a time of 19:22.
Watford City’s Hayley Moe was the only other girl competing for the Wolves in the meet and she finished in 41st place in a time of 25:43.
In the boys varsity division, Devin Schmitz was Watford City’s top finisher with a 25th place finish in 18.31, followed by Logan Gumke, 27th, in 18:36 and Braedon Gumke, 28th, in 18:39.
Also placing for the boys team was Michael Brown, 36th, in 19:06; Cole McGorman, 48th, in 20:12; Dakota Garmann, 49th, in 20:17; and Dillon Smith, 51st, in 20:46
“Going out to the Fort Peck Dam  and running at the Glasgow Invite was a great experience for our team,” stated Greg Brown, Wolves’ head coach. “By going out there we got to run the varsity girls the same distance as the varsity boys, which was stated to be a three mile course, and the junior high athletes ran 1.5 miles.”
One of the other advantages of competing at Glasgow was none of his athletes knew any of the other runners.
“We got to run without worrying about how we are running against the teams we are chasing in North Dakota,” stated Brown. “All of our runners ran very well and looked very smooth. If they keep bringing the effort that I saw this past Saturday, good things will be happening for the Wolves.”
In the boys junior varsity division, Osman Leon placed fifth in a time of 20:04, while Jack Gillespey finished 10th in 21:26. Also placing for the boys was Trevor Alveshere, 15th, in 22:51; and Cody Kirkland, 16th, in 23:08.
In the boys junior high division, Cauy Hartel finished in 27th in 11:22, while in the girls junior high division, Chelsea Cryer finished 26th in 11:39.
The next meet for the Wolves will be when they travel to the Rugby Invitational on Saturday.
