Football season comes to an end for Wolves

Watford City definitely had its chances to avenge its earlier loss to Heart River and to keep the Wolves’ playoff hopes alive on Saturday. But in the end, in spite of recovering four Heart River fumbles the Wolves fell to the Cougars 28-7 to bring their season to an end.
After both teams failed to score in the first quarter of play, the Cougars got on the scoreboard in the second quarter to go up 7-0. Watford City then had its first big scoring opportunity as the Wolves had the ball on Heart River’s five-yard line. But a stingy Cougar defense denied the Wolves on a first and goal opportunity.
The Cougars scored first in the third quarter to go up 14-0. In the ensuing kickoff, Daniel Marmon returned the kickoff back to the 15-yard line to set up a Wolves score. Keegan Thompson connected with Logan Fettig on a four-yard pass play to bring Watford City to a 14-6 deficit after three quarters of play.
But that would be the only score for the Wolves as Heart River would tack on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter to put the game away with a 28-7 win.
“We played a lot better than the first time we played Heart River,” stated Fred Fridley, Wolves’ head coach. “Heart River is a very good football team and our players gave their best. They have two very good running backs and we made them work for every yard they got.”
The Wolves ended the season with a 5-4 record and as the No. 2 team in Region III.
