The Watford City varsity boys basketball team is on a winning streak as the Wolves recorded their fourth consecutive win with a 53-47 win over the Bowman Bulldogs last Friday. With the win, the Wolves improved their season record to 6-6.
This week, the Wolves will be hosting New Town on Thursday in a key District 15 game before traveling to Trenton on Saturday. The Wolves will close out the week’s schedule on Tuesday, Jan. 31 when Parshall comes to town.

At this point in the season, Randy Cranston, the head coach of the Wolves boys basketball team,   doesn’t care how his team wins. He just wants them to win.
And in spite of a slow start against Bowman last Friday, he got the win.
“It was pretty much an ugly win,” stated Cranston. “But we will take a win any way we can get it.”
Watford City has had trouble all season getting off to a good start offensively and the game against Bowman was no different as the Wolves found themselves trailing the Bulldogs, 33-26, at halftime.
“It was another of those games when we got off to a slow start and then had to play catch-up in the second half,” stated Cranston. “The guys  responded well in the second half and began to play at game speed.”
The Wolves’ offense came alive in the third quarter as Watford City outscored Bowman, 20-10, to set the stage for their fourth consecutive win.
“We didn’t show a lot of enthusiasm in the first half and it hurt us,” stated Cranston. “We’re still looking to put a full game together. However, we definitely know we are able to come back from a deficit as it has been the theme the last couple games.”
Three Watford City players hit double-figure scoring in the contest with Tyler Bates pacing the Wolves with 18 points followed by Lucas Nicholson and Shawn Fulwider with 11 points each.
Rounding out the scoring for the Wolves was Dustin Kleppen with five points, while Mitchell Liebel  and Logan Fettig ended the game with four points each.
