Watford City’s cross country teams opened their season this past Saturday when the Wolves competed in the Becki Wells Invitational in Dickinson.
And in spite of their youth, Greg Brown, Wolves head coach, was pleased with the performance of his runners.
“I felt all teams ran extremely well at the Becki Wells Invitational,” stated Brown. “We have been training hard so it was exciting to see how all the athletes competed on Saturday. I feel with a little hard work we will see many exciting things happen through the season.”
Both the boys and the girls teams competed at the Junior Varsity level at Dickinson with the girls team taking second place, while the boys team finished in eighth place.
Kade Ross led the girls team with a second place finish with a time of 17:21, while Guy Ross paced the boys team with a 30th place finish with a time of 20:40.
Other Watford City finishers in the girls division were Asha Smith, 3rd, 17:26; Addison Sundeen, 14th, 18:21; Lea Arndt, 16th, 18:27; Tara Loomer, 23rd, 18:41; and Bessie Schmitz, 31st, 19:16.
Also placing in the boys division was Dustin Kleppen, 45th, 21:06; Logan Gumke, 46th, 21:07; and John Meuchel, 47th, 21:10.
The Junior High boys team took 18th place at the meet with Devin Schmitz taking 60th with a time of 11:43 and Hunter DeFoe took 62nd with a time of 11:50.
