Watford City’s varsity girls golf team finished in first place at the Ray Invitational State Qualifier on Friday, May 1.
“I am pleasantly surprised with the win,” stated LeRoy Bettenhausen, girls head coach. “The ladies had a super team effort playing in cool, damp weather conditions this week.”
Karson Pederson led the Wolves with a 104 to finish in ninth place individually, while Krystle Folland and Shaunta Miller finished with a 105 and 107, respectively. Rounding out the team score was Emilie Anderson with a 111, while Samantha Schwan and Bessie Schmitz, ended the 18-hole play with 121. Schwan’s score, according to Bettenhausen, was used for the team tie-breaker.
“Our early season work on striking the ball off the tee box paid big dividends as it set up the ladies to score,” stated Bettenhausen. “The ladies learned to make a lot of adjustments in their approach shots to the fast greens at Ray. We’ll continue to focus on our chipping and putting in practice this week.”
The next action for the varsity girls team will be the Stanley Invitational on Friday, May 8.
