Walleye extend their winning streak to 10-0

With double-header wins over Makoti and Stanley last week, Watford City’s American Legion baseball team upped their season record to 10-0.
The next action for the Walleye will be on Wednesday, June 29, when they travel to Sidney for a double-header. The Walleye will then compete in a tournament in Devils Lake fro m June 30 to July 2.
The Walleye will host Garrison on Wednesday, July 6.

Watford City scored 30 runs on 24 hits as the Walleye rolled over Makoti in double-header action on June 22.
Watford City took the first game in five quick innings as the Walleye put up three runs in the first inning, and then tacked on six more in the third inning before adding one run in each of the last two innings.
Douglas Rolfson made short work of Makoti’s batters as he struck out seven of the 18 hitters he faced.
After holding a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the third inning, the Walleye scored six runs on five hits to put the game on ice.
Doug Nordby’s double allowed Joey Dwyer and Trey Jacobson to score to begin the six-run rally. With two outs, Jayden Grotte would hit a single scoring Douglas Rolfson and then a double by Chaz Mosby would allow Nordby and Nate Egeberg to cross the plate. The Walleye’s final tally in the inning would come when Grotte scored on a Jacobson single.
In the second game of the day, the Walleye took the wind out of Makoti’s sails early as Watford City jumped out to a 4-0 lead and then scored in each of the next four innings en route to a 19-2 win.
The Walleye took advantage of solid hitting, being aggressive on the base path and errors by Makoti to help Brice Brenno pick up the win on the mound.
Nick Liebel got the Walleye on the scoreboard in the first inning as he connected for a two-run double. Doug Rolfson and Liebel would cross the plate to close out the inning’s scoring.
After scoring two runs in the second inning, Nate Egeberg opened a five-run third inning with a solo homer. Makoti’s pitcher then walked in a run, and with the bases loaded, the Walleye would score three more runs on fielder’s choice or errors.
The Walleye would tack on two more runs in the top of the fourth inning on singles by Trey Jacobson and Douglas Rolfson that scored Brandon Taylor and Jayden Grotte.
Watford City would then close out their scoring as six more Walleye would cross the plate in the top of the fifth inning to cap off a very impressive game.

Watford City capped off another great day of baseball scoring 28 runs on 22 hits in double-header action against Stanley on June 23.
Stanley would get on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning. But that was the last time that they would score as the Walleye completely dominated the balance of the game.
Watford City held a 2-1 lead at the end of the first inning as Chaz Mosby and Trey Jacobson scored on hits by Jacobson and Doug Nordby.
After a scoreless second inning, the Walleye would add one run in the bottom of the third and then put five runs on the board in the fourth inning.
Nordby opened the fourth inning scoring on a Nate Egeberg single followed by scores by Chris Larsen, Brandon Taylor, Chaz Mosby, Joey Dwyer and Trey Jacobson.
And then to add icing to the cake, the Walleye would score three more runs on four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the win.
Trey Jacobson earned the win on the mound for the Walleye striking out 14 of the 21 batters that he faced while giving up just four hits and two walks.
Watford City’s solid hitting continued in the second game of the day as the Walleye scored 17 runs on 10 hits to cap off the sweep of Stanley.
The Walleye were down 3-2 after the first inning of play, but nine runs by Watford City to open the second inning set the tone for the remainder of the game.
After a scoreless third inning, the Walleye would score one run i n the fourth inning and then add five insurance runs in the top of the fifth inning.
Nick Liebel earned the win on the mound for the Walleye striking out seven of the 19 batters that he faced.
