Schmaltz to compete in U.S. Track and Field championships

Christine (Bruins) Schmaltz, a senior at North Dakota State, will be competing in the 2011 U.S. Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Ore. on June 23-26.
Schmaltz, who will run the 800 meters, automatically qualified for the U.S. Championships after running a time of 2:02.77 at the American Milers Club High Performance Series on Wednesday, June 15. Her time at the American Milers Club was the third fastest collegiate time in the nation.
Schmaltz earlier in June finished in ninth place at the NCAA D1 National Championships.
For her performance at the NCAA Championships, Schmaltz was named to the All-America second team. She is the fourth Bison to earn Division 1 All-America honors.
Schmaltz is the daughter of Gary and Betty Bruins of Arnegard.
