Douglas Rolfson pitched a strong game for Watford City striking out 14 Crosby batters as the Walleye edged the Cubs, 4-2, in the first game of a double-header last Thursday.
After a scoreless first inning, Watford City got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second inning, and tacked on a second run in the bottom of the third inning when Brice Brenno drew a walk and then scored on a Trey Jacobson triple.
The Walleye capped off their scoring with two insurance runs in the fourth inning as Nate Egeberg scored on a Tyler Bates single and Bates crossed the plate on a Jayden Grotte single.
Crosby would score two runs in the top of the sixth inning to close out the scoring.
Watford City out-hit Crosby 5-4 with Trey Jacobson going two for three, while Doug Rolfson  and Tyler Bates were one of two at the plate.
In the second game of the day, the Walleye’s bats came alive as Watford City scored 12 runs on 12 hits to blast the Cubs, 12-2, in five innings.
Crosby got on the scoreboard first as Morgan Jacobson drove a Trey Jacobson pitch over the right field fence for a two-run homer.
But the Walleye would quickly recover as Watford City scored six runs to open the second inning and take control of the game.
Doug Nordby would begin the bat around for Watford City as he scored on a throwing error by Crosby. Nate Egeberg then scored on a fielder’s choice for the Walleye’s second run of the inning.
A triple by Brice Brenno scoring Joey Dwyer would tack on the third run. Brenno then scored on a double by Trey Jacobson. A double by Nick Liebel scored Jacobson, and a single by Rolfson would score Liebel to cap off the six-run inning.
After a scoreless third inning, the Walleye added five runs in the fourth, and capped off the win, scoring one run in the fifth inning.
Trey Jacobson picked up the win on the mound for the Walleye, striking out 11 batters while giving up one hit and and one walk.
