Watford City picked up its first baseball win of the season last Thursday as the Wolves pounded Des Lacs-Burlington, 9-0. In what was to have been a double-header, the second game of the evening was cancelled because of snow falling.
The Wolves next game is scheduled for Tuesday, April 26, when Watford City hosts Trinity Christian.

“It was a typical first game,” stated Justin Johnsrud, Wolves’ head coach. “But it’s a good way to start the season, with a win.”
With very little outdoor practice so far this spring, one could expect the Wolves to be just a bit rusty. But all things considered, Johnsrud was pleased with the team’s efforts.
Watford City got on the scoreboard first picking up one run in the second inning and then adding two more runs in the fifth inning. The Wolves then went on a six-run scoring spree in the sixth inning to take the win.
At the plate, Chris Larsen was one of two and picked up the first RBI of the year, while Douglas Rolfson was one of two with three RBIs.
On the mound, Rolfson pitched the first 3 1/3, walking four and striking out three batters. Trey Jacobson pitched the final 3 2/3, walking three batters and striking out nine.
“Our bats were a little slow and our timing was off,” stated Johnsrud. “But I thought we pitched well, especially considering the conditions. It was only around 38 degrees, and our pitchers struggled to stay loose.”
