Parade of Lights was a great way to get into the holiday spirit

Once again, the Watford City Area Chamber of Commerce put on a spectacular Parade of Lights to kick off the holiday season.
The parade included Santa Claus, ice skates, cowboy boots and horses, all of which were decked out with Christmas lights and lots of Christmas spirit.
The day after Thanksgiving parade was a great way to get into the Christmas spirit while you show holiday guests around Watford City. And with stores open late, it was also a great time to get some of your holiday shopping finished early.
“It was a great night,” says Linda Knudtson, of Meyer’s Department Store. “There were a lot of people out for the parade and we had a lot of people in the store. It was a great day.”
In addition to getting people into the spirit of the holiday season, each business was also vying for the Parade of Lights traveling trophy, which was being held by last year’s winner, McKenzie Electric Cooperative.
The parade had only half as many floats as last year, but that didn’t make it any easier for the judges to choose the winner. The three judges each picked a different float as their favorite. But in the end, McKenzie County Bank walked away with the trophy for their cowboy boot float. The large boot was decorated to resemble the Chamber’s Country Christmas theme.
With the holiday season in full swing and this year’s parade behind us, it’s too late to win the traveling trophy for 2010, but it’s never too early to start thinking about how you will decorate your float for 2011.
While you’re shopping downtown, don’t forget to drop your kids off at the free movies so you can get your shopping done.
