The second shooting incident since the beginning of March, took place over the weekend in the 100 block of Lincoln Street in Watford City.
According to the Watford City Police Department, officers responded to a call of “shots fired” in the early morning hours of Saturday, March 7.
Officers were able to determine that the shots had actually been fired nearby in the 100 block of Roosevelt Street. Officers discovered that several shots had been fired, striking a residence in the neighborhood. No injuries were observed or reported from the shooting incident.
Details are still coming in and witnesses reported observing an older model SUV fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. The department is following up on several leads that have come in, but a suspect has not yet been identified, nor has a motive been established in the shooting. The investigation is ongoing.
“There is no danger to the general public,” said Art Walgren, Watford City Police Department chief of police. “This does not appear to be random, but rather that the shooter was targeting someone living in the trailer park.”
The Watford City Police Department is encouraging anyone with information to come forward and assist in solving this crime. People with information may contact Assistant Police Chief Wellen or other investigators at 701-842-2280.
